Prevent Treble Dull in Volume Control

When the volume control is turned down, sometimes it causes the sound to be “dulled”. The series resistance of the pot interacting with the capacitance of the next stage to form a low pass filter and a resulting high frequency loss causing the dull volume control. To prevent this, a small capacitor can be added from the input to the wiper on the volume control. Here is the schematic diagram of the circuit :

This small value capacitor provides a bypass around the series resistance of the pot and has a low impedance at high frequencies as the volume control is turned down. The values of the capacitor depends on the value of the capacitance and the pot of the following stage. A good starting range of C1 is 150pF to 470pF. [Circuit’s schematic diagram source: muzique.com]
